        1. Teams from the Fermanagh Men's Shed take part in walking football delivered by Sport NI Active Communities coaches within Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. Active Communities is a National Lottery-funded programme that aims to increase participation in sport and physical recreation in Northern Ireland, especially among under-represented groups.

All the rules are the same but with one big difference, you can only walk -- no running, no sprinting, just walking.         3. On Monday 2nd November, Manchester County FA hosted an evening for Community Clubs to learn about the benefits and how to set-up their own sessions. Dan Pilling, our Recreational FDO and Nick Roberts, the Community Sport Activator of Lifeline FC hosted the event at Platt Lane which included a beneficial practical.         4. Steve Rich is on a mission to turn walking football into a nationwide game. With the help of Barclays Digital Eagles, Steve set up a website to encourage others to play and has seen interest in the sport rocket in the past year.         12. Eastleigh FC's Walking Football is an inclusive, sociable fun version of 5 a-side football specifically for over 50’s. The rules are adapted so there is no running, very little contact and kick ins instead of throw ins. With less stress on the body and no real sudden change of direction or cutting movements the game allows participants to play without apprehension. The game is still competitive and play can be extremely tactical favouring those players who take their time and read the read the pitch around them.         16. Walking Football

          The first ever “Walking Football” tournament has been held at the Glasgow Green Football Centre with four teams showcasing the sport which is aimed at keeping people aged over-50 involved with football if they are not able to play the traditional game. Though based on association football, the key difference is that if a player runs then they concede a free kick to the other side. This restriction, together with a ban on slide tackles, is aimed at avoiding injuries and allowing the sport to be played by those who are physically disadvantaged. Walking Football promotes cardiovascular fitness whilst producing the least stress on the body. It also assists participants maintain an active lifestyle and if this pilot tournament is a success, more Walking Football sessions could be introduced.
